The State Program Selection, Adoption, Use as a Basis for Action
LOCAL LEAGUE MEMBERS MEET TO:
PLAN STATE PROGRAM: Review current program and consider additional issues of statewide concern.
MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. To retain, change or drop state positions.
2. For any new study.
THESE ARE SENT TO:
STATE BOARD, whose members formulate a "recommended" state program based on member input.
THIS GOES TO STATE CONVENTION:
(Meeting every odd numbered year and this year, May 30-31) where delegates from all the Local Leagues decide what the program will be for the next 2 years.
IT CAN INCLUDE:
1. NEW STUDY ITEMS which require comprehensive study directed by state and local committees and shared by members. followed by:
CONSENSUS of Local League members
WHICH IS SENT TO the State Board where the sense of your League is combined with others to determine consensus.
THIS IS ADOPTED as part of State Program.
2. PREVIOUS POSITIONS which can be retained as before or changed according to wishes of delegates.
PROGRAM IS THEN THE BASIS FOR LWV ACTION:
such as Legislative action by the State Board. Local league response to a call for action. Individual letters by members. Board approved testimony. Citizen education. Working with other groups.
