United Nations DPI/NGO Conference

LWVUS President Becky Cain will speak at the DPI/ NGO (Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organizations) Conference which will be held September 10-12,1997 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The conference will examine the foundation of the unique relationship between the UN and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Issues will include human rights, the rule of law, economic and social development, and access to information. The focus will be on sharing ideas for community-based efforts.

This year the U.N. may limit the number of registrants allowed each organization. To all league members who wish to attend this conference, call the office for a registration form. The deadline for registration is August 25. After you send in your registration form, wait a week, and then check with the U.N. at the Resource Center (212-963-7234) to make sure you have been registered before you make your travel plans.

For further information, please contact league U.N. observers Margery Cohen (201) 762-0499, or Doris Schapira (201) 746-5153.
