As you may know by now, the League of Women Voters of Kaua'i County's annual Legislative Forum was a smash hit. All five Kaua'i legislators attended as did over 120 members of the general public.
My thanks to Representatives Kawakami, Apo and Kanoho, as well as Senators Aki and Fernandez-Sailing, for taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with their constituents. Thanks also to all those in attendance. Several groups showed great organization and sophistication by attending en mass with prepared questions and information packets on their issues for the legislators to take back to Honolulu.
Since there was not enough time for all questions to be answered, we will be trying something new. The questions will be duplicated and forwarded to all five legislators for written responses. Their answers will then be printed in the Garden Island newspaper.
I also thank Pat Dougherty for filming the forum in its entirety. It has been shown several times on Garden Isle Cablevision. We have a copy for member viewing.
Of course, my biggest thanks go to all the League of Women Voters of Kaua'i County members who helped with publicity, setting up chairs, registering voters, making pupus, sorting questions, and on and on. Without their active support we would not be able to accomplish the League's goal of "encouraging the informed and active participation of citizens in government."
