Testimony on HB 1056 [military facilities conversion]To: House Committee on Economic Development and Business Concerns House Committee on Intergovernmental Relations and International Affairs. February 10, 1993 My name is Dr. Rhoda Miller, and I represent the League of Women Voters of Hawaii on the task force for economic conversion of the Community Council of the Spark M. Matsunaga Institute for Peace at the University of Hawaii. The task force was formed as a result of a conference held last June at which representatives of the academic, military, business, and civic communities expressed a desire to begin planning for the orderly conversion of facilities in our state from military to civilian use. We now seek institutionalization of that task force. Only with the imprimatur of the state government can research, planning and implementation of this process go forward and command the cooperation of all the segments of society that need to be involved. The League of Women Voters of Hawaii urges passage of Bill 1056. Rhoda Miller |
