Quoting the Supervisors

Here are the answers your Supervisors gave to the League's question before the primary election last fall:

"When additional hotels are built in Waikiki, do you think they should be on the beach or across the street from it? Why?"

Apoliona: "It is the finding of hotel people that hotels built on the beaches are more attractive and have less vacancies than hotels built away from the beaches. Visitors from away come to Waikiki to live on the beaches and not away from the beaches."

Asing: "To build up a large tourist trade additional hotels should be built in Waikiki, as near as possible to the beach."

Beamer: "Where they can place them on the beach, place them on the beach."

Teves: "The proposed modified Waikiki beach master plan has my '100 per cent support.' It provides areas for nine hotels, five of which will be on the beach side of Kalakaua Avenue and yet retaining Waikiki Beach for the general public."

Kauhane: "If it will help the economy of the Territory and create a new industry (tourist), we should build another hotel on the beach."

Kido: "The ideal situation would be to build all hotels across the street from the beach."

Takabuki: "Hotels should be built across the street from the beach."
