You Can't Beat the System

Our apologies about the late VOTER last month. Bulk mailing at the U.S. P.O. saves LWV a bundle - - 3.8¢ apiece instead of 20¢ -- but you have to follow a very rigid set of rules. Just when you think you understand the whole procedure, they change the rules and you're back in square one.

On October 30th, mail day for the November VOTER, your editor missed the noon deadline at the Richards Street O. No big thing. However, knowing it was important the VOTER get to members early (so they would know about the Nov. 10 General Meeting), she drove to the main P.O. at the airport. The clerk was very nice. He spent 15 minutes explaining some new rules. Your editor was quite pleased with herself. She'd saved one step by going directly to the Main PO instead of Richards Street and she'd learned the new rules from the horse's mouth, so to speak, and the VOTERs were now properly bundled, labeled, sacked and ready for early delivery.

So why did it take the VOTERs 2 weeks and more to get to members? Alas, only the P.O. knows and they're not telling. Your editor was last seen beating her head against the P.O. wall.
