Non-Partisanship and the League Member's RoleAs election time approaches each of us is increasingly aware of the opportunity to pursue our political inclinations. For some it will be to actually seek a position in government - or continue in one. Some members will choose to help you, or other candidates; others will participate mainly on election day. Each activity is what League is all about - getting to be a part of the political process. Cautions exist for League members, however. It is urged that we remember that the organization neither supports or opposes any political party or candidate. The bylaw policy* assures the credibility for the League to "work on both sides of the aisle" in pursuit of League program goals. Board members must take extra caution and a portion of the board meetings will be devoted to discussion in this area. We will use as reference new guide lines voted on at National Convention. The final decisions are left to each local Lea for determination. Any adjustments in thinking for Honolulu will come to you in another issue. In the meantime get active and help the candidate of your choice - or become one! *Bylaws, Article II Purpose & Policy
