Time for Action

Although the committee on the National Agenda Item has not been meeting during the months of July and August, members have been watching with interest the progress of the foreign aid legislation. One of our last items of business in June was responding to the "time for action" from national on the subject,

Now we have a second "time for action." At the moment, bills from both houses are in a joint committee. The resulting compromise bill will have to be passed by both houses.

All three of our congressmen voted for their respective bills. However, this does not mean that further support for the measures is not needed.

The League has always supported long term financing, one of the points in the senate bill. Since this is one of the areas of conflict between the administration and congress, we would do well to indicate our interest and support of this item. (However, not to the exclusion of the entire bill.)

If you don't know how to properly address your congressmen, feel free to call on Gracia Belkl, our corresponding secretary - phone 39-160.
