Local Resource Committee

The holiday season was enjoyed by all members of the Jail Action Committee after a very busy fall. Now the group will be taking up action again.

A meeting of the steering Committee of the Community Committee for a New Jail has been called by chairman, Don Mayo, for Monday evening, January 17 at 7:00 P.M. at Hale Nanea, 3058 Kapiolani Boulevard.

Meanwhile, a number of community groups have voted endorsement of the League's campaign for a new city jail.

On November 18 the Business and Professional Women of Honolulu voted to "assist the League of Women Voters in every way possible to attain this objective."

On December 7 the United Church Women of Honolulu gave us "full support and approval in attempting to bring about this reform."

On December 7 the St. Louis Heights Community Association sent to the Board of Supervisors their endorsement of our campaign.

On December 9 the Religious Society of Friends appointed two members to cooperate with us and expressed "whole hearted support of the purposeful move for a new jail for our City and County."

On December 14 the Honolulu Council of Churches voted unanimous support of our efforts.

This support action from community groups is heartening. This is but the beginning of a vigorous campaign about to resume!
