U.S. Representative to Youth Conference to Speak

The subject of the December 17 membership meeting will be UNESCO. The guest speaker will be Mr. James S. Miyake, a counselor with the Bureau of Testing and Guidance at the University of Hawaii.

He has recently returned from Burma where he represented the U.S. at the Youth Conference sponsored by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) at which most of the Pacific countries were represented. He can give us firsthand information on .the organization's effectiveness in those countries.

The December meeting is planned by the National Resource Chairman, Miss Mildred Saunders. In addition, her committee is planning a series of discussions beginning in January. They are designed to help prepare our local League for action in support of the LWV's national program, namely WORLD SECURITY and how it may be promoted.

These meetings will be open to all members and as many as can are urged to buy and read the following League pamphlets:

THE CITIZEN AND TEL UNITED NATIONS
THE CITIZEN AND INTERNATIONL TRADE
NEW WAYS TO MEET OLD PROBLEMS

Reading of this background material will ensure greater enjoyment and understanding of these programs. Pamphlets will be displayed at the December meeting but those members who cannot attend the meeting should call Dr. Teru Togasaki to place an order so that she will be able to get extra copies. They are 15¢ each and her telephone number is 725325.
