Meetings on Changing City Charter

The Honolulu City Charter Commission will hold a series of three public outreach meetings in various locations around the island. The purpose of the meetings is to educate the public in the operations of the Commission and to gather public input on agenda items. The Commission will not be voting on any of the proposals during these meetings. After this set of meetings, the Commission will schedule meetings to vote on the remaining proposals.

All meetings are scheduled for Tuesdays at 6 pm.

March 21 - Kailua High School Cafeteria
March 28, - Kapolei Hale Conference Rooms A-D
April 4 - Hahaione Elementary School Cafeteria

Of special interest are:

  • Proposal 7 which changes "development plans" to "Sustainable Community Plans" which require a land use plan.
  • Proposals 21 & 47 which recognize "Urban Growth Boundaries" in the City Charter. Any change in the boundary would require a 2/3 majority vote of the Council.

Evangeline Funk,
Piilani Kaopuiki
