Delegates Share Impressions of the State Convention - 1Kauai League sent three delegates to the June 10, State League Convention: vice-president, Andrea Gray; treasurer, Marie Fifield; and new board director, Carol White. Below are individual reports for our membership review. Andrea Gray - Vice-President: "This was my first time attending a League State Convention, and I was excited to meet and learn from my fellow Leaguer's from around the state. Before lunch we all broke off into groups. We were told to choose an area that we had a special interest in. Seeing as I have small children, I choose to sit in on the "School Governance" table and then later, the "Education" table. Both sessions offered a wide range of questions and possible solutions to problems in the system such as; the unions hold on the DOE and how the Public can better access the DOE's budget information. After our lunch our key note speaker Linda Colburn had us all in stitches. Linda taught us to see all sides of a situation and how to mediate our problems together. Colburn told us that we are all responsible for taking better care or our islands and its people. Somehow she amazingly did this all with great humor. Frank Delima watch out! I can only hope to be so lucky as to be able to attend our next state convention in 2003." Andrea Gray |
