League Local NewsHonolulu League Contracted to Oversee Native Hawaiian VoteIf you watch the six o'clock news with any regularity at all, you've had to have seen long-time leaguers Arlene Ellis and Jean Aoki as well as other Honolulu members accompanying burly security guards, lugging boxes into vaults. The Honolulu League was contracted by the Hawaiian Sovereignty Elections Council to conduct, supervise and monitor the closely watched and highly controversial Native Hawaiian Vote. According to Ellis, "This election was no different from any supervised by the League of Women Voters of Honolulu since 1972. We strived to maintain the secrecy of the ballots and assure the accuracy of the count."
