Introducing the LWV of Hawaii Board 1993-1995

James H. Koshi, Ph.D. 946-0092
2333 Kapiolani Blvd., #2011 Honolulu, HI 96826

Jim is a retired Professor Emeritus of the University of Hawaii College of Agriculture. He joined League in 1986 and has held various "jobs" including working a camera for League's public access program, being a part of agriculture and leasehold study committees and others. Jim has served on many community boards and continues as a Commissioner for the Neighborhood Board system of the City & County of Honolulu.

Cira DeCastillo 943-2006
2333 Kapiolani Blvd., #1911
Honolulu, HI 96826

Cira has come to Oahu to live while her daughter attends high school. Cira served most recently as President of the Kaua'i League and has been a Board member for that League since 1986. She will continue to work with the Kaua'i League to train and enlarge local membership.

Sue Irvine (1) 935-8080
974 Ainako Ave.
Hilo, HI 96720

Sue I. is again serving as the State League's Treasurer; she also provides leadership for the Hilo League where she has been a member for 20 years. Volunteer jobs also include the Hawaii Medical Association Auxiliary. Sue works as pension fund manager for her husband's office.

Dale Bachman 545-1691/537-2776(B)
Secretary (Minutes)
217 Prospect St., #A-10
Honolulu, HI 96813

Dale Bachman was appointed to serve as Secretary, a job which is adjunctive to the elected position of Secretary-Treasurer, but Dale is not a "second banana." She retains her membership in the Hawaii County League where she served in many capacities over a 25 year period.

Dorothy Lum 591-0272
Editor, Leo Hana
1350 Ala Moana Blvd., #809
Honolulu, HI 96814

Dee has served as the editor for Leo Hana for four years and welcomes member ideas and articles. This "job" is a specific task which fits nicely on the heels of other responsibilities she has had in League over the past 25 years.

Patricia Card 487-8448/735-4733(B)
98-288 Kaonohi St., #1903
Aiea, HI 96701

Although Patricia is a relatively new member, she jumped right in to the audio control slot for the League's public access production. Formerly an educational specialist for a non-profit organization, Patricia provided in-service teacher training in multicultural education for the departments of education in American Samoa and Hawaii. Currently an Assistant Professor of English as a Second Language at Chaminade University of Honolulu, Patricia teaches foreign students academic English skills.

Jana Chang 732-8692
Chair, Home Rule
P.O. Box 11793
Honolulu, HI 96828

Jana, a member of League since 1986, wears many hats: Chair for the state study on Home Rule, educator, and avid golfer. Prior to becoming a social studies teacher, Jana worked for the Election Services Division of the Lt. Governor's Office.

Betty Adams 254-5576
Chair, Health Care
407 Ililani St.
Kailua, HI 96734

Recently retired as a psychiatrist, Betty was called upon to chair the state portion of the recently completed national study on Health Care. As such she was appointed to the Board; this appointment has been extended so her leadership will aid League in the action phase.

Sue Thorndike 732-6971/586-6995(B)
4136 Black Point Rd.
Honolulu, HI 96816

Sue T. has been a League member since 1964 and served on the first State Board with the Voter Service portfolio. She was active on education and state finance study committees and shouldered many other tasks before she joined the work force. Working in the office of Senator Mary George was a natural extension of her League experience: she now applies her skills in the Senate Minority Research Office as a researcher.
