Hilo Members Attend ConferenceHilo League members Sylvia Hammer and Sara Thompson attended a Nuclear Issues conference sponsored by the LWVUS on November 17-19, 1980. The conference was held in Washington, D.C. Sylvia and Sara attended sessions on implications for nuclear power, the international outlook for nuclear power, alternative energy sources, nuclear proliferation, state perspectives on nuclear waste, risk assessment and perception, institutional issues, social implications of different energy futures, and political frameworks for decision making. Conference participants also discussed the role of the public and "how to get the message out." Sylvia and Sara are presently preparing a public information program for Hawaii based on the conference information.
