State League Nominees 1969-71: Who Are They?President: RUTH SNYDER (Mrs. Keith) - Joined League in 1952 in Oak Park, Ill. -lived in Minneapolis and then Mt. Lebanon, Pa., where she was a social worker - arrived in Honolulu in '63 and for a time was Personnel Director at Waialae Liberty House - has been active in Honolulu League - on the Board the past two years as Aloha Voter Editor. Husband Keith is Comptroller, University of Hawaii -they have one married son on the mainland. Vice-president: FRANCES McLEOD (Mrs. Scott) - a former Canadian - now an extremely active U.S. citizen - joined Honolulu League in 1965 - on the board since '66 -headed the Observers program - First Vice President last year and Voters Service Chairman - has been a 2-year president of PTA, Enchanted Lakes School. Husband Scott is general manager of Hawaiian Tuna Packers - they have two young children. Secretary-Treasurer: CAROL NEWBURN (Mrs. Frank) - moved in July 1968 to Kamuela from Los Angeles where she was an executive secretary in an insurance company -joined the Hawaii County League last autumn and has helped establish the Kamuela unit. Husband Frank is minister of Imiola Church. They have a 2-year-old daughter. Director: MARIE GILSON (Mrs. Thomas) - joined LWV in Westfield, N.J. in '55 - served there as Finance chairman - Membership chairman and Vice-president of Honolulu League. For past two years has been Vice-president of State Board, handling Membership, Organization and Development of Human Resources portfolios. Husband Tom is a professor of management and industrial relations in U.H. College of Business. They have two sons and one daughter, all married and on the mainland. Director: ALICE SCOTT (Mrs. Arlen) - in 1938 came to Hawaii - was a Public Health Nurse - retired in '66 as State Director of Public Health Nursing - joined Honolulu League in early fifties - served as Vice-president under four League presidents - worked on Local Agenda committee on City-County Charter - is an ardent observer of City Council - joined State Board Sept. '67 as a Director to work on State items - testified for League at Con-Con - presently an Observer of the Legislature and responsible for the Legislative newsletter. Husband Arlen is State Superintendent of Farmers Home Administration under USDA. Their son is a pilot with a local airplane company.
