The Hilo and Kona LWV units have been working together to develop a Voter Information Pamphlet which will be the first one in the state. It will cover all elections on the Big Island. The county elections division and Charter Review Commission have indicated an interest in seeing it printed and distributed. It is a big project, but one which could be the beginning of a statewide Voter Information Pamphlet in the future. Each candidate is being contacted by a LWV member.
The LWV, under the guidance of Marian Wilkins, researched and voted on "Vote by Mail" - which was supported, providing there are safeguards against fraud.
The LWV also testified before the Charter Review Commission in support of non-partisan elections and neighborhood boards.
We have provided voting assistance for several Community Associations island-wide.
There is interest in working with National LWV to allow two Leagues on the Big Island, East and West.
We are looking forward to the State Council Meeting May 20 in Kona as we will have Kay Maxwell, National Liaison, as our guest presenter. Members are encouraged to let us know of any subjects on a national level which would be of interest or which you would like to have presented by Kay Maxwell at the State Council. We also encourage all LWV members to attend if they possibly can. It will be quite informative. Meeting will be held at King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua Village.
