League's DV Studies Makes HeadlinesThe Honolulu Weekly a local newspaper publication had an extensive article on how domestic violence victims and their perpetrators are dealt with in Hawaii. "Double Jeopardy" by Jess Kilby, dove into the state's domestic violence response network. It cited the fact that battered women in Hawaii are victimized twice: first by their abusers, and again by our State system. The article which appeared in the Aug. 23-29 edition noted the flaws within the network of organizations available for victims of domestic violence and how what's working and more so what's not. It urged the organizations take note of the League's 1998 study report and suggested that it be used as a guide for future changes to the system. For those that missed it, the article is available on-line via The Honolulu Weekly website at: HonoluluWeekly.com.
