D.C. Voting Rights - Part I
My final project as State President has been to successfully apply to the LWVUS Education Fund for a grant to publicize the fact that the citizens of Washington, D.C. are denied certain voting rights that are granted to citizens of our 50 states. Through this grant, we are committed to raising public awareness of this issue here in Hawaii. We plan to do this at the Kauai Annual Meeting and Marianna Scheffer has given a presentation at Kulani Correctional Facility, here on the Big Island. We have incorporated our outreach on this issue with education on the fact that incarcerated, convicted felons lose the right to vote here in Hawaii. Because so few of us know much background on D.C. voting rights, we have included a fact sheet from LWVUSEF in this issue. Please use it to educate yourself and at least one other person.
