Kenneth Goodenow, County Clerk, County of Hawaii

Born and raised on Oahu, Mr. Goodenow graduated from Iolani School in 1985. After receiving a B.A. from the University of the South in Sewanee Tennessee with a major in Medieval Studies, he taught English in Czechoslovakia and China for three years. Upon returning to Hawaii, Mr. Goodenow worked in the Office of the Governor and successfully ran for the State House of Representatives in 1996. He served for two terms and entered law school in 2000 at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law. After graduating with honors and passing the bar exam, Mr. Goodenow served as a deputy public defender until going into private practice in 2005. While in private practice Mr. Goodenow did legal work for the Council and was eventually persuaded to work full time as the Council’s legal specialist. In 2007 he was promoted to deputy county clerk by former clerk and law professor Casey Jarman. After the 2008 elections he was appointed by the Council to be the county clerk whose duties include being the chief county election officer. Mr. Goodenow has also served as president of the Hawaii County Bar Association and treasurer of the Friends of Hakalau Forest, National Wildlife Refuge.
