Candidate ForumLeague has been deluged with requests for League to sponsor Candidate Forums. We are considering the 23rd District Senatorial Race, Kaneohe to Kahalu'u, as our first project. The incumbent, Senator Mike McCartney is not running for reelection, opening the seat to allcomers. Running in the Democratic Primary are Reb Bellinger, Debi Hartman, Bob Nakata and Terrance Tom. The Forum, which will be open to the public, is tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 11, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Pohai Nani auditorium. Two of the candidates have agreed to debate the issues, one has not responded, and one is out of town. League is asking its members and also members of the District to send in questions they would like answered by the candidates. League member Marilyn Bornhorst has consented to act as the moderator for the event. We will need volunteers to act as greeters, ushers, timers and runners to pick up questions from the audience and deliver them to the dais. It is not too soon to get the team together. Call the office and volunteer. Arlene Ellis |
