1996 Joint Military Women's Conference
Jackie Parnell was one of many workshop instructors at the 1996 Joint Military Women's Conference held at Hickam AFB on October 18 and 19. This annual conference for military wives presented information on a wide variety of subjects to "enrich, empower, uplift enlighten, motivate, and strengthen them in their roles as women, wives, mothers, professionals, and community leaders." Her assigned subject was Sorting Facts from Fiction in the Media. Jackie used Project Vote Smart material to provide information and the League's 1994 Ad Watch project to give the 14 women in her group a hands-on experience at being a League member. The women used the rating sheets developed by Ad Watch to evaluate and rate political ads appearing in newspapers during the week prior to the conference. And, of course, they were amply supplied with information on other League activities and membership applications!
