Ah Quon McElrath to Speak at Annual League MeetingThe Annual Meeting of the League of Women Voters of Honolulu will be held at the Pacific Beach Hotel's Ahi room on Saturday, April 20, from 9:00a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Among the important issues to be discussed and decided upon will be a recommendation to increase annual dues by five dollars, and a review and acceptance of a scaled-down budget to meet the tenor of the times. This is also the meeting at which we will discuss the pros and cons of whether we will recommend a Constitutional Convention or no. The Con-Con Committee has been working for months interviewing community leaders for their responses to this question and will present a breakdown of their pros and cons. After the discussion, we will take action on a possible position. The election of officers and directors to lead the League for the next two years will be held. Suzanne Meisenzahl has declined the nomination for President, so we will have a floor nomination for the post. It is very important that each of us consider this vacancy very seriously. This is the first time that League has faced this situation, but we are confident that the membership will rally forth and fill the post. The above are but some of the highlights of this event. We need a large attendance of members to participate in the decision making that will impact each and everyone of us. We are pleased to have as a guest luncheon speaker, Ah Quon McElrath, community leader and a member of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents. Ah Quon will share with us her thoughts on the performance of this year's legislature and the issues of the day, as only she can do.
