Court Monitoring Project UnderwayUnder the direction of project manager Susan Anderson, State League's family court monitoring project began February 20th. The League has concerns about the enforcement of our domestic abuse laws by the criminal justice system in Hawaii and its impact on the safety of domestic violence victims in our community. The project will concentrate on monitoring domestic violence proceedings in the Family Court of the First Circuit. The proceedings will be personally observed by members of the project who will collect data that will be compiled, analyzed and assessed to determine the impact of the process on victims. The project was inspired in part by the information provided to the community during the panel discussion on violence sponsored by the League last year. Our thanks to all the volunteers who are donating their valuable time. This is a three month project and additional volunteers are welcome. Please call the League office to schedule time for training.
