Violence Prevention Coordinating Council
The League is a member of the Violence Prevention Coordinating Council. This Council is coordinating the efforts which will result in the legislative report as is required by the 150 HD1 and Senate Concurrent Resolution 191 HD1. The report will address the proposal to integrate violence prevention into school curricula, pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The proposal suggests that skills and knowledge promoting nonviolence become as integral to school curricula as reading, writing and arithmetic. Teaching all children tolerance, respect for self and others, responsibility, problem solving, and nonviolent conflict resolution skills is a viable strategy to significantly reduce violence. It is a proposal worthy of research, consideration and a preliminary discussion of Pro's and Con's by leaders in our community. If you would like to participate in one of the Council meetings call the League office.
