World Conference on Women Meets in BeijingAre Women of the World Better or Worse Off Today Than They Were Ten Years Ago?" That question will be an important focus of the 1995 U.N. 4th World Conference on Women being held in Beijing, China. LWVUS Vice President Bobbie Hill, U.N. Observer Margery Cohen, and Emerging Democracies Staff Member Orna Tamches will be participating in the NGO Forum on women that precedes the official UN Conference. They will focus on two topics from the "platform for action": inequality in access to education, health and related services; and inequality between men and women in sharing power and decision making for all levels. Attending this conference from Hawaii is State League's Human Resources Chair Pam Ferguson-Brey. On September 16, Honolulu and the State League will hold a general membership luncheon meeting to provide an opportunity for League members and friends to share a report on this trip which may include video filmed by Pam. We are planning to produce a video of this meeting on the UN report to be shown on 'Olelo. Details will be given in the next Voter issue. Anyone wishing to volunteer time to organize the meeting or work on the video production, please call the office and let us know.
