Report on EducationThe committee has been actively pursuing information and activities concerning educational reform and Charter Schools. A draft procon brochure describing Charter Schools has been prepared. Marion Saunders and Pam Christoffel attended a breakfast meeting sponsored by the Hawaii Business Roundtable which featured Daniel McLaughlin, Far West Lab, San Francisco, who discussed his research on the California charter schools. At the meeting, representatives from Kapaa, Lanikai, Waialae, and Waiahole Elementary schools, Moanalua HS, and Puohala Hawaiian Immersion program shared their experiences with Hawaii's new Student-Centered Schools program (not quite a charter school program). Waialae is up and running! Pam Christoffel |
