Public Forum on Health Care Reform

A Public Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Kaiser Family Foundation (not associated with Kaiser Permanente) will be held on Saturday, April 9 at 8:30 a.m. at the MABEL SMYTHE AUDITORIUM, located on the corner of Beretania and Punchbowl.

The Forum will feature Representative Patsy Mink who will present the Clinton and other Democratic Plans, Jared Jossem will present the Republican Plans; and Dr. John Lewin of the Health Department will explain how these plans affect Hawaii. Senator Daniel Akaka will also have some comments.

This Forum is presented by the League of Women Voters - a public service project to the public to inform them with facts about the different health plans, and to allow for questions to the speakers and reactors.

Also invited are professionals who will react to the plans presented, so the public can hear their concerns and opinions. Included in these reactors are Dr. S. Wallach of the Medical Association, Dr. Michael Craffin of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group (an HMO), Dr. Alfred Fortin of HMSA, Nancy McGuckin-Smith of the Nurses Association, Bette Tatum of the National Federation of Independent Businesses and Stella Satake of AARP.

Bring all your friends who are interested in health issues and are concerned about health care and how it will affect them.

There is ample parking across the street in the Health Dept. parking area. The bus stop is conveniently located on Beretania St. after Punchbowl across the street from Mabel Smythe Auditorium.

We need volunteers to help with passing out cards for questions, and to help with refreshments. Please call Irene Coogan at 737-1262 or Grace Furukawa at 988-3532 and offer your assistance.
