Permit Modification for Storage on Johnston AtollThe US Army received a permit to operate Johnston Atoll Chemical Agent Disposal System (JACADS) in Aug. 1985. The modification will allow continued storage of hazardous waste as part of the existing permit. Following is a list of the hazardous wastes that are or may be stored: Obsolete munitions - M55 rockets EPA, in compliance with deadlines mandated by the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments, has required the US Army to apply for a Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) permit to continue storing hazardous waste at Johnston Island. Public participation is an integral part of the RCRA permitting process. A public information meeting will be held at the Washington Intermediate School, 1622 So.
