President's Message (Arlene Ellis) Rail Transit Task Force (Patricia Tummons) We Won! ... Well, Almost! (Astrid Monson) Vote Counts Access - Legislative Information Service Help Wanted! State Capitol Public Room Welcome! |
Vote CountsAs many of you know, the first quarter of the year is VOTE COUNT time. This is the activity that brings in most of the funds we need to pay the rent, the utilities, office supplies, postage, and for public service programs such as our monthly "THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS PRESENTS" on channel 20, and the VOTER which is one of communicating with our members. This is the activity that also enables us to pick up the slack for General Membership Meetings to pay for coffee, guest speaker lunches, leis, etc., which we feel should not be borne by those members who attend the functions. For those members whose commitments curtail involvement in on-going committees and a year or two-year long study program, this is the opportunity to get involved in a one-time, one-day stint. There is something for everyone. For those who have problems standing for long periods of time, you can sit and check-in voters or sit and tally votes. For those who can't sit for long periods of time, we need go-fers to distribute tally sheets, sharpen and distribute pencils, count and stack ballots, pick up and deliver finished tally sheets, etc. For those of you who have problems with your eyes, you don't have to see well to sort envelopes, sort and count ballots into stacks, and many other small tasks that demand attention in a vote count. We have an assortment of labor to fit everyone except those who are blind, those who have broken hands or arms and those who must lie prone. SO! Look over the following schedule and call the office today to fill your niche. KA LAHUI VOTE COUNT - Tallying votes in the League office
PEARL HARBOR FEDERAL CREDIT UNION - checking voters off a roster, on-site
HAWAIIAN TELEPHONE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION - alphabetizing & checking off roster.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that you need not volunteer for those days when only 2 are needed. Those spots are critical. We need to fill them just as much as days that we tally votes. CALL SOON!
