House Bill on Child CareThe Education and Labor Committee of the House of representatives approved child care bill H.R. 3 on June 27, and the bill has. yet to come to vote of the House. The bill, sponsored by committee chairman, Augustus F. Hawkins (D-Ga.), includes key elements of the Senate ABC bill. The committee approved bill, The Early Childhood Education and Development Act, authorizes $1.75 billion for fiscal year 1990, and the same amount, if necessary, for fiscal years 1991, 1992 and 1993. Also, $25 million is authorized annually for fiscal years 1990 through 1993 for a matching grant program to promote business involvement in meeting employee child care needs.
