Speak Out, HawaiiSeventy-three community leaders appeared on League's "Speak Out, Hawaii" program. The project was undertaken in cooperation with Channel 5, airing issues the speakers thought needed to be discussed. The project, chaired by Lois Galpert, involved months of planning and preparation and taping. The first viewing was on October 17, and the last on November 7, the day before Election Day. Each speaker appeared twice a day with a different speaker each day. The topics ranged from the Sandy Beach Initiative, to the concerns of small business, care and treatment of the mentally ill, and the rights of Gays to equal opportunity and protection. The views expressed by the speakers did not necessarily reflect League's views on the topics. Participants in the project were very happy with the results, thought the project was worthwhile, and many wrote letters to Channel 5 and League thanking us for this opportunity to speak to the people.
