President's Message (Arlene Ellis) Debate '88 Go-See Tour - Kapolei Speak Out, Hawaii Intra-Island Ferry System Attention In Memoriam City Council Special Election (Dorothy Murdock) Welcome to New Members General Membership Meeting |
"Go-See Tour" - KapoleiThe State Land Use Commission's approval of the second city called Kapolei in Ewa was a long awaited major event in Oahu's development. League has always supported the secondary urban center location in Ewa and we are pleased to see this first step taken. Mr. Oswald Stender, chief executive officer of Campbell Estate on whose lands Kapolei will be built, has invited the League to a "Go-See Tour" of Ewa on Monday, September 26. It will be a bus tour that will include lunch at Lanikuhomua, the late Kamokila Campbell's home, as the guests of Campbell Estate. The tour will begin at 10:30 a.m. when we will board the bus at Merchant and Fort Street Mall and return at 2:30 p.m. Included will be a visit to the proposed Kapolei Town Center that will involve a shopping center and office and government buildings and will be a new urban focal point in Leeward Oahu. We will also visit the site of the adjacent Kapolei Village which will eventually have 4,800 residential units including 60% set aside as lower-cost "affordable" housing. Leaguers will have the opportunity to preview the resort development for Leeward Oahu as well as a major new-town development. We urge you to mark your calendars and call the office immediately to reserve a seat for this exciting event. The bus capacity is 50. We need a head count by mid August so Campbell can make their bus and lunch arrangements. Call the League office at 531-7448 or 537-6267.
