Meeting Basic Human Needs: Committee Report

On Thursday, January 7, 1988, at 9:30 a.m., the Basic Human Needs Study Committee will be meeting with Roberta Ochi of the Honolulu

Community Action Program. Ms. Ochi serves as the Leahi District

Coordinator for this group. The HCTP, using funds from varied sources, helps to fill the gap left by state and federal social programs. Ms. Ochi will discuss HCTP's activities and sources of funds. League members are welcome to join us.

On December 3, 1987, MBHN committee members met with Helen Onoye and Masaru Oshiro of the Department of Human Services and Lorraine Kurihara of the Hawaii Housing Authority to discuss the various services available to Hawaii's poor. Committee members got a better idea of how the different levels of government are involved in providing such services and the problems faced by the staffs of the different programs. As one member expressed, we were impressed by the dedication and the sincerity of the speakers.
