League Interviews Council - John DeSotoCouncil Member DeSoto's interest in public service began with his work on substance abuse programs. A community concern which he feels is primary is education -- that there be schools, facilities and teachers to meet the needs than an increased population would bring. Schools being a state area led to discussion of city-state relations. Mr. DeSoto said there is a lot of hope that the future (with new leaders on both levels) will bring about more cordial relations, and needed changes. Members of Mr. DeSoto's staff are assigned to the Neighborhood Boards which are in his council area. He looks forward to having the Boards help in communication which will lead to a "win-win" situation for citizens who have individual or community concerns. John DeSoto chairs the Parks & Recreation Committee and sits on four other committees; Planning, Housing, Budget and Public Works. Dee Lum |
