League Opposes GP Ammendments

Oahu's general plan limits the location of future off-Waikiki resort development to West Beach (Ewa), Kahuku (Kuilima) and Makaha.

League recently opposed two proposed - General Plan amendments which would permit additional resorts at Queen's Beach and Mokuleia. We pointed out that existing planned resort areas are ample to take care of resort expansion needs for decades to come. We pointed out that economists call for large resort develop ment and are against proliferation of small resort areas which are not economically viable. Furthermore, the Queen's Beach site is already included in the acquisition list for park use.

The City Council did not approve the Queen's Beach proposal and has not yet taken action on Mokuleia.
