YWCA Lunchtime ProgramsThe YWCA of Oahu has scheduled a series of lunchtime programs to address the diversity of interests among women. All sessions will be held at the Richards Street YWCA, 1040 Richards Street, Room 307 from noon to 1:00 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) every Wednesday during the month of October. The programs are free to YWCA members and $3.00 per seminar for non-members (unless otherwise noted). Call 538-7061 to register. October 22 - Picture Brides: Lives of Hawaii's Early Immigrant Women from Japan, Okinawa and Korea. A slide presentation of young women who came to Hawaii as picture brides from 1908 until 1924, depicting their personal stories and their contributions to the State of Hawaii. Oral interviewing strategies will be part of the presentation. (This will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is free to non-members also.) Alice Yun Chai, PhD, Assoc. Prof. UHM, Barbara Kawakami, Project Director. October 29 Did You Hear What I Said? Did I Say What You Heard? Develop your Interpersonal and Intrapersonal listening skills. Although we spend more time listening than in reading, writing or speaking, how much training have you had in effective listening? Do you understand that hearing and listening are not the same? Learn to identify the barriers to effective listening. Discover the different types of listening as well as the various levels of listening. Listening improves all relationships. Learn it, try it, you'll like it! Lynne Halevi, PhD, Halevi Assoc. November 1 & 8 - Writing a Resume That Works For You! A two session workshop that will assist participants in defining their skills and experiences, and in putting them together into a market-able resume. 9:00-Noon at the YWCA.
