Preparing for Phase II National Security ConsensusIncluded in this month's Aloha Voter is the two-page consensus form for the second phase of the National Security Study. This consensus will be taken at the February 25th general membership meeting. Please study the form, and plan to attend the informational meetings which will be held in January and February. Details will be printed in the January Voter. IN THE MEANWHILE, the committee suggests that we do some reading of some highly recommended material and review some of the easily accessible literature that were recommended for Phase I. RECOMMENDED READING Twenty-five copies of the LWVUS publication, "Dollars for Defense: Translating Military Purposes into Spending Choices," have been ordered and will be available for purchase or for reading in the office as soon as they arrive. You are urged to call in to reserve a copy immediately so more may be ordered should the demand exceed the supply. They sell for 75¢ a copy. Highly readable and available at the League office in the Board Reading File is the nine-page "North Atlantic Treaty Organization: A-Report of the League of Women Voters Fact-Finding Trip, March 19-26, 1983." REVIEW Many of you already have a copy of "Providing for the Common Defense: A Military Policy Reader," which was made available at one of the informational meetings for Phase I. Articles in the National Voter: Fall, 1982 - "The Future of National Security" Winter, 1983 - "NATO in the 1980s: Challenge and Prospects" Spring, 1983 - "The Politics of Arms Control"
