National Security Committee ReportWe were pleased to see so many of you at the first meeting dealing with the BIG STUDY for all-member consensus on National Security. Thank you for coming. The next meeting will be announced in the next issue of the Voter. I thought you might be interested in a few responses to the questionnaire that was passed out at the meeting. Wish we could include more, but space does not allow it. It will be interesting to get your responses to the same questionnaire at the conclusion of the national security program in the spring of 1984. At that time we'll share more of the results with you. DO YOU THINK U.S. CITIZENS CAN INFLUENCE U.S. MILITARY POLICY?
SHOULD WE BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE A NUCLEAR UMBRELLA FOR OUR ALLIES IN EUROPE?
FOR OTHER COUNTRIES?
DO YOU THINK THE U.S.S.R. OR THE U.S. HAS TAKEN THE MOST POSITIVE STEPS TOWARD ARMS CONTROL?
None of the members favored the Reagan START program. I wish we had more means of sharing the rewards of the Committee's study with League members. We will have such few meetings with you, but we do offer you our Committee Library in the local LWV office which has the press clips of most of the locally printed newspaper articles about foreign relations, as well as articles from national periodicals, and it is indexed for your easy browsing. Attached to this issue of the Aloha Voter is the LWVUS pamphlet, Quest for Arms Control. The Board decided that the importance of this pamphlet warranted the expense (45e per member at bulk order discount rates). This will give you a lot of information relevant to the upcoming consensus question on Arms Control. The Committee also has extensive bibliographies and could give you reading suggestions. Mahalo for your interest. Since no one from the Hawaii Chapter can attend to listen and take notes, we would welcome a volunteer. It provides an interesting opportunity to do something important for the Hawaii League. Call Dottie Gullicksen, Rhoda Miller or Marian Heidel, or leave a message at the League office if you're willing to act on this mission. * * * * * * * * * * I volunteer to read one volume this summer on Military or Foreign Policy or Arms Control of my own choosing ___ from suggestions by National Security Cmte ___ Name Phone number Return to Dottie Gullicksen P.O.
