Citizens for InitiativeA group of citizens, interested in amending the charter of the City and County of Honolulu to permit initiatives for ordinance, formed the Initiative Committee and has been busy circulating petitions to get the measure on the November ballot. A total of 23,441 valid signatures is needed before the end of August. The Committee is striving for about 30,000 signers to make sure there are enough to certify the measure for the ballot. Mrs. Mary-Jane McMurdo, chairman of the Initiative Committee, has pointed out that the effort would not be necessary if the Charter Commission would approve initiative among proposals to be submitted to the voters at the general election.
