President's Message
After lengthy deliberation the Honolulu Board voted to send our full complement of Honolulu and Hawaii delegates to Convention in Washington, D.C., on May 3 to 7, 1980. Honolulu and Hawaii are each allowed two delegates. Money has been budgeted to send Honolulu LWV President-Elect Barbara Farwell and State President Pat Shutt to Convention. There is not an allocation in the budget for two additional delegates. In fact, there have been times in the past when we could not afford to send any delegates, even with travel equalization from National. Although we will have to dip into our savings, our financial situation is a little more sunny this year, thanks to several unexpected vote count jobs during the past 18 months. While League has many needs, the Board feels that our isolation from other local and state Leagues requires that leadership development have a high priority. Wendie Wong, 1st Vice-President (Program and Voter Service Chair) will be our Honolulu delegate; Arlene Woo, Public Relations Chair, will be our State delegate. We are proud of our representation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board members and Leaguers who gave so much of themselves to allow the Honolulu League to succeed this year. It's been an adventure well worth the effort. Mahalo, Jean Ko |
