From Our President

The Honolulu Board hopes that you enjoyed the holiday with family and friends. The exit of 1979 gives pause for reflection of the past League year.

  • Our attendance at general and unit meetings has been outstanding; our goal of adding twenty-five new members was achieved. People are being drawn together by a desire to work for good government.

  • The League program showed broad state and nationa interests, including Juvenile Justice, Schools, and International Trade.

  • The weekly KHVH "Viewpoint" spot gave League a break-through to the commuting radio public.

  • Study leads to action: our most recent testimony was concerned with the restriction of public protest (Bill 94), and an Environmental Impact Study on HART. (Complete testimony is in the office reading file.)

  • Money has always been a problem. In addition to corporation drives and fund raisers, vote counting (UPW, TheBus, and the Hotel Workers Union elections) continues to be a sustaining part of our financial picture.

  • 1979 concluded on a festive note with Andy Bumantai entertaining at the Makamaka Mixer; a gourmet holiday luncheon brought the year to a close.

1980 will concentrate on the City and County of Honolulu. The

City Council will be the focus of the January and February units. A trip to City Hall will highlight the 60th anniversary celebration of LWV. Units on Transportation and Planning round off the League year.

New Years resolutions are frequently made each January and it is the desire of the Honolulu Board that League will be included on your list. Resolve to care, so that we can stand together to make League count.
