Committees: More Updates
Planning and Zoning

The Planning and Zoning Committee has recently been reorganized, and will be meeting regularly--once a month. We invite anyone who is interested to come and join us.

The committee will continue to watch all phases of planning, but of particular interest now is the Development Plan. In the preliminary draft of the Development Plan for the primary urban center, the Department of General Planning (DGP) has left blanks to be filled-in for housing density and building heights for apartment zones. The DGP has asked the Neighborhood Boards to submit their recommendations for their areas. The committee will be watching citizen participation in the actualization of the Development Plan.

Our next meeting is Monday, July 30 at 12:30 p.m., Prince Kuhio (new) Federal Building in room 3316. At this meeting, Del Freyer will give a brief summary for 1978-79 of the Oahu Development Conference. Astrid Monson will discuss land development rights, as related to the June 22 conference at the Ala Moana Hotel on Vested Rights/Development Rights--a growth management conference. Also, Astrid will read a report prepared by Helen Griffin, vice-chair of the Hawaii Community Development Authority, on HCDA's plans for Kakaako. And Fredda Sullam will report to us her views on the Phase III, Honolulu Urban and Regional Design Study.

This should be an interesting committee meeting. I hope that anyone who is interested will bring their lunch and join us in sharing ideas from 12:30-2 p.m. on July 30. For additional information, please call Pamela Green at 949-7135 or 948-8019.
