Community Announcement: Task Force on Sex Bias

The Task Force on Sex-Bias in Education is a group organized to study school policies and practices which discriminate against girls. Sponsored by the State and County Commissions on the Status of Women, W.E.A.L. and the Y.W.C.A., the Task Force has enlisted the participation of the Department of Education and a broad spectrum of community organizations, including the League of Women Voters, in its efforts to bring our school system into conformity with Title IX of the 1972 Education Act.
The Task Force has been organized into five committees dealing with: textbooks; curriculum and sex-segregated classes; counseling; physical education and athletics; and administrative practices and personnel attitudes. Their common objective is threefold: to determine if and how sex-discrimination exists; to make recommendations to eliminate such violations of both Federal and State laws; and most importantly, to press for implementation of those recommendations.
