Something New on the Sehlves at SafewayThe League has been working with Safeway Stores, Inc., and Prentice Hall on the publication of a paperback book designed to inform citizens about potential issues and candidates in the 1972 Presidential election. The bock, "You and Election'72," will be distributed and sold in more than 1900 Safeway Stores throughout the country, Safeway is distributing the book as a public service. Any profit from its sale will go to the League, The store price will be 890 and the books should be available the first week in May. Book copy makes it clear that the contents do not necessarily represent the positions or opinions of either Safeway or the League. "You and Election '72" has been written and edited by a team of topflight authors including four New York Times' staff and two economists with the National Industrial Conference Board. Safeway intends to give the books high visibility both in their stores and through the media. They are also recommending that their division managers contact state and local League offices in their respective areas to explore ways in which local and state Leagues might wish to cooperate in promoting the publication. This might very well include other locally-oriented voters service activities and tie-ins.
