Election Night CoverageOn November 3rd, election night, a team of League members was at election headquarters at HIC reporting on key precincts for national ABC news. This involved telephoning New Jersey where the ABC election computer was located with the voting results of 30 selected precincts on Oahu for the Gubernatorial and Senatorial election races. At the same time Peggy Haring was covering Molokai, and Leaguers in Hilo and on Maui were also reporting to ABC. The League has been doing this nationally and locally for ABC for a number of years. Our State League was paid over $700.00 for performing this service. In addition, we cooperated with KGMB radio by totaling precincts on Maui and Kauai. Beverly Carter coordinated the overall reporting program for Hawaii. Claudia Patil, Helen Frederick, Betsy Marcinkus, Lila Grossman and Betty Buck were the on-the-spot reporters at HIC. Since both KHVH-TV and KGMB-TV were there covering the election, it was an exciting evening with candidates and local press and political personalities coming and going. Betty Buck |
