Report on the Local Agenda

Our local agenda item has been defined in this bulletin as "A Study of Planning, with emphasis on zoning, and support of measures promoting orderly development of the City and County of Honolulu.

To carry out the part of this definition beginning with the words "and support...", and in line with the consensus of opposition to "spot-zoning" and the hasty granting of variances prior to the adoption of a General Plan we have with Board approval acted twice in emergencies.

  1. We sent a letter to the City Council urging them to give the Planning Director sufficient time to produce a suitable over-all plan for the Waikiki-Diamond Head area.

  2. We sent a telegram to the legislature supporting the bill designating Diamond Head a historical monument. (introduced by Eureka Forbes).

In the meantime we are discussing in the units this kind of emergency action.
