A bill for the control of air guns was introduced by the entire Board of Supervisors on April 2, 1957, and after various amendments and a Public Hearing, was passed unanimously on May 21 and signed by Acting Mayor Kauhane on May 28.

The ordinance defines air guns as any gun designed to expel a pellet by the action of compressed air or gas, or any spring or elastic. It provides that no dealer may sell, rent or in any way transfer an air gun to any person under the age of 18. No other person may give, lend, or in any other manner transfer a gun to anyone under the age of 18 years, except where the relationship of parent and child, guardian and ward, or adult instructor and pupil exists.

The ordinance makes it unlawful for any person under the age of 18 to carry any air gun on a street or public road and regulates the discharge of air guns, unless accompanied by an adult.

The penalty for violation of this ordinance is a maximum fine of $500, imprisonment of not more than one year, or both, plus forfeiture of the gun.
