Charter CommissionBoards and Commissions are currently engaging the attention of the Charter Commission. In a series of meetings their representatives are setting forth the scope of their activities their problems and - for the most part - why they should continue as they are. Most of these Boards and Commissions are administrative rather than advisory in function. It is interesting to remember that the Honolulu League recommended to the Charter Commission last July that "Boards and Commissions be limited to advisory groups, that is, that they should not interfere in the administration of departments:' We added, "The League believes that care should be taken that obsolete boards, whose major responsibility has been taken over by a regular department of the government, should not be retained." During the next few weeks meetings are planned with representatives of the Sheriff's Office. the Police Commission, the Liquor Commission, and the Board of Public Parks and Recreation. If you want to attend, call Laura Draper, 99-5168 (early mornings is the best time). Meetings are scheduled for 4:00 P.M. Mondays. You may miss something if you don't go!
