Membership Meeting

Guest speaker at our membership meeting, April 18th, will be Dr. Roy E. Brown, Director of the Tax Foundation of Hawaii. Dr. Brown will discuss possible forms of government for Honolulu, under its new charter, stressing the good and bad points of each. Dr. Brown is well qualified for this task, having received his doctorate from the University of Iowa in the field of public administration. Before coming to Honolulu, eight years ago, he was Director of Research of the Tax Foundation of New York.

Now that the League has achieved the goal for which it worked so long, the appointment of a Charter Commission, members should acquaint themselves with the details of a good charter. The Charter Committee is planning a series of unit meetings on such subjects as duties of the mayor and council, city manager government, finance structure, legal services, the medical-examiner system, etc. Out of such meetings will come the League's "stand" when it meets with the Charter Commission.
